The Global Writing Workshop
**http://theglobalwritingworkshop.wikispaces.com/**
Project Goals:
This project was created by my first grade class in Richmond, Virginia.
The goal of this project is to encourage and actively engage students in the writing craft by encouraging them to construct collaborative text, post their original writing, and give and receive thoughtful response that challenges writers to revise and grow.
Through your membership, you will be able to post your students' writing, have your students receive and give response, contribute to our collaborative stories, and participate in our professional discussions on teaching writing in a global world.
Duration: This project is ongoing.
COST: Free
Targeted Grade Levels/Age Groups:Kindergarten-Eighth Grade (Ages 5-15).
How This Project Works:
Teachers go to the wiki website ~ **http://theglobalwritingworkshop.wikispaces.com/**~ and click JOIN. I will accept their membership within 24 hours.
Once members, teachers have FOUR opportunities for participation . Teachers are welcome to utilize all four opportunities or simply participate in one.

1~ POST STUDENT WRITING ~ RECEIVE AND GIVE RESPONSE: Students post their writing on the corresponding grade grouping page and receive response. Students respond to the postings of their peers in the same grade grouping. Please do not post photographs of your students or use their last names.
2~CONSTRUCT A FICTIONAL, COLLABORATIVE STORY: I will place small groups of classes situated around the world into writing groups. Each group will then decide on a topic, contribution schedule, and then collaboratively construct a fictional story. Each group will pay careful attention to the makings of a coherent text as they utilize and grow their knowledge of story structure as they write. Please do not post photographs of your students or use their last names.
3 ~ CONSTRUCT A NONFICTION COLLABORATIVE STORY: I will place small groups of classes situated around the world into writing groups. Each group will collectively construct a wiki page in which they share knowledge on a specific content area. Groups will be encouraged to utilize photographs, videos, and various professional resources to share information. Groups are welcome to suggest their topic of interest. Please do not post photographs of your students or use their last names.
4 ~ POST A QUESTION ABOUT THE TEACHING OF WRITING IN A GLOBAL WORLD: There is a page for teachers to post questions about teaching writing in a global world and respond to the questions of their peers.
How to Join: This project is ongoing and teachers are welcome to request membership to our wiki at anytime. If you would simply like to post your students’ writing and receive/give response and/or participate in our professional discussions on writing, you can simply click edit and begin your participation (once you have joined the wiki).
